Help Mt Hope with Monthly Pledges and Sponsoring!

Whoa Friends!

Operation Help Now is in full swing and we’re hoping that you’ll be part of our team here at my barn! There are several ways to help too.

First I would like to say that with your ongoing monthly donation of your own choice those pledges all combined provide my barn with a wonderful opportunity to have grain, hay, farrier work, dental, shots and more taken care of for my barn pals and me. While the boys are here being rehabbed and retrained in some cases for life on their own in a new forever home it is up to Mom to provide the best care and to keep the barn running smoothly.

When the horses come in our first bill comes from the vet and then perhaps the farrier. The vet will do an intake exam, check for parasites, administer needed vaccines and make observations and recommendations for further treatment as needed. Then usually not long after that we may have the new guys get the hooves trimmed and teeth floated. All this along with the day-to-day expenses of feeding us, cleaning the stalls and general maintenance of the farm all come into play. Though our trainer is unpaid, she puts in a tremendous amount of time that has actually saved Mt Hope a significant amount of money toward the care of the horses. Even with this savings we need a good amount of donations and volunteer help to keep the farm’s operations intact.

For example if you are able to donate a minimum of $5.00 per month that will buy one bale of hay! Combined with other monthly pledges of similar or larger amounts and we’re able to buy an entire month’s shipment! The same for the grain pledge, farrier pledge or a bedding pledge! All the monthly pledges added together will provide a needed service for the horses. Currently we have 13 loyal monthly pledges and they have been tremendous! We have been able to rely on their thoughtful donations which we greatly appreciate. Those monthly pledges in combination with Pudge’s Fan club fees and one time donations have been needed and without them we could not survive.

If you would like to make a pledge to donate monthly/quarterly, you can download the pledge form here at the link below:

Operation Help Now: Mt Hope Horse Rescue Horse Sponsorships

Hi Friends!

My barn here at Mt Hope Horse Rescue is a busy place! As barn mascot I am here to let you know that my work is never done and in fact it seems I get busier by the day. Mom gave me this big job to share what we are doing here at the barn and why we need your help. We call it Operation Help Now. Because we are a publicly funded non-profit organization, your donations of time and funding is necessary in order for us to care for the boys in all the areas that they need. There are several ways of course that you can be a part of our team and help the horses too. It’s a very rewarding gesture to help horses in need that would otherwise face a very uncertain future.

Horse sponsorships here at Mt Hope are indeed very flexible. We have several levels of sponsorship and I am sure if you wanted to customize your sponsorship giving Mom would certainly be glad to work with you! Horse sponsorships are all about funding the needs of the horse to include routine vet care, farrier work, dental, shots, and grain and hay. If you want to fully sponsor a horse OR part of the care that would be super swell. For instance if you wanted to sponsor the farrier bill or just the grain and hay bill, Mom would be more than glad for the help.

Currently we have four horses in need of sponsorship: Patches, Tipsy Saint, Bam Bam and our new pony Nemo. I am fortunate in that I am fully sponsored but the guys in the barn need a little help. Tipsy Saint is half sponsored so if anyone would like to do a partial sponsorship for him that’s would be super deluxe! Patches is not up for adoption as he is our lesson horse here at Mt Hope. Bam Bam will be up for adoption at some point but not just yet.

If you would like more information about any of our horses up for adoption and needing sponsorship please contact our trainer Jill Costarella via e-mail at
JaCostarella@gmail.com

To learn more about the levels of sponsorship please check out Mom’s website at this link:

It is welcomed for you to customize your sponsorship too. If you prefer to sponsor a particular need for one or more of the horses such as the farrier bill, or the grain bill or another area of your choosing Mom is certainly willing to work that out with you and she can be contacted at pat@mthopehorserescue.org

We hope that you will consider sponsoring a horse at Mt Hope as it will bring you a great deal of personal reward in knowing that you have helped a horse from facing an uncertain future. Remember too all your donations are tax-deductible and to check with your tax advisor!!

Please help us make Operation Help Now a success for our horses and so that we can continue on with our mission of helping horses!

All for now,

Luv Pudge ♥

Standlee Hay! A great new addition to our diet!

Hi Friends!

It’s me Domingo and Tipsy Saint! We wanted to share with you all about our recent experiences with Standlee Hay and it’s all good! Yummy in fact! As you know, we’re the OTTB’s in Pudge’s barn and being such we have had to make adjustments to life after our racing careers were over. We are so fortunate to be living here with Pudge and his Mom, wonderful Trainer Jill and all the nice caring barn peeps who are here working hard each day taking care of us.

Trainer Jill being the ever vigilant and consummate horse woman and lover of all equines is very astute to know when things with us or any of the horses under her care are not quite right or perhaps something needs to be changed to better our lives. So she noticed that I was not picking up weight was well as I could be and Tip still has the racer tuck and needs to fill out a bit too. So we had our vet visit and it was discovered that I had some yucky parasites and perhaps I may even have an ulcer. But the latter will need more testing yet to determine but in the meantime Trainer Jill pondered along with our vet what could be done to facilitate a better change in my diet and to alleviate those pesky critters. Plus she wants to get the right kind of weight on us so we can be our optimum best.

So as Jill pondered what to do next we were fortunate to receive a donation from Standlee Hay company! Whoa, but this ultimately turned out to be a great option for our diets. We started using Standlee Hay after they sent us a donation and asked us to try their product. Trainer Jill looked at what they had to offer and thought, “This is the answer to one of our problems!” Seeing that they had beet pulp and hay cubes she said yes and went to the local Tractor Supply to pick up a few bags of each.

Because I was infested with parasites and with the preliminary diagnosis of ulcers me (Domingo) had been losing weight steadily. My buddy Tipsy Saint the other OTTB was also on the lean side. After picking up these products we both started to gain healthy weight and our coats got an extra glossy look to them.

Both me, Tipsy Saint and Trainer Jill would recommend these products to anyone trying to add affordable calories to their horses diets. They have many different products that fit a number of different needs. We are using Alfalfa and timothy hay cubes and shredded beat pulp. We both love our additional rations and Trainer Jill can see and love the results we are getting!!!

Of course any change in your horse’s diet should not be made without the input of your veterinarian and with input from your owner and trainer! You will be glad to know that Standlee products are available in Tractor Supply Company Stores just about everywhere and several local feed stores in your area may also be able to help you obtain the products and more information.

Standlee Hay has a solid reputation as a leader in the hay industry and has a wonderful website to give you the latest information on their products, their company history and how to contact them with any questions you may have. They are also on Facebook, Twitter and have a store locator so you can locate a retailer near you!!

To learn more about Standlee and their high quality products please check out their link! We highly recommend Standlee hay products!

Many thanks to Trainer Jill for evaluating this product and giving a positive change in our diet that has given us nice results! And in addition to looking great we are feeling better too!
